Adding Transactions to Assets in AdviserLogic

Learn how to manually add transactions to assets in AdviserLogic, ensuring accurate record-keeping and portfolio management.

Overview

In AdviserLogic, datafeed-linked assets automatically receive transaction updates, ensuring seamless portfolio tracking. However, if you have manually added assets, transactions must be entered manually to maintain accurate records.

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for manually adding transactions for manually entered assets, ensuring your client's portfolio stays up to date.

Adding Transactions in Assets

From a client record, navigate to the Assets tab. Then, hover your mouse over the Three Dots Icon at the end of the asset row where you want to add the transaction.


Select Transaction List from the drop-down menu.

The Transactions window will open.

Select the required Transaction Type from the drop-down menu in the pop-up window. The available options include:

Once you have selected the appropriate transaction type, select Add to proceed.

📌 Note

If you need to modify an existing transaction, simply click on it in the list after transactions have been saved.

Add Investment Transaction

The Add Investment transaction type is used when additional units are added to an asset. This type of transaction is important for some reports to calculate the cost base of an asset accurately.

Enter Transaction Details

Fill in the required fields:

Deposit Date

The date the transaction occurred.

Units Added

The total number of units added in this transaction.

Gross Amount

The total value of the transaction (the amount paid to obtain the additional units).

Optional Fields

Although these fields are not mandatory, adding relevant details can help with better record-keeping, enhanced reporting, and easier transaction tracking within AdviserLogic.

Transaction Status

Choose from:

  • Approved

  • Reversed

  • Existing

  • Estimated

Notes

Allows you to enter custom notes or comments about the transaction for internal reference. Helpful for tracking changes or adding additional context.

Description

Provides a brief summary of the transaction. Useful for differentiating similar transactions within the same asset.

Total Tax

Records any tax amount associated with the transaction. Helps maintain accurate tax calculations for reporting purposes.

Total Fees

Captures any fees deducted from the transaction, such as brokerage or management fees. This ensures a more precise net investment value.

Once all required details are entered, select Save to confirm and record the transaction.

📌Note

  • The save and Delete buttons will show as grey until you hover over them with your mouse.

  • Transactions can also be locked from further editing by ticking the Lock transaction tickbox at the bottom of the transaction.


Redeem Investment Transaction

The Redeem Investment transaction type is used when units are withdrawn or sold from an asset. This transaction type is essential for accurate cost base calculations in reports.

Enter Transaction Details

Fill in the required fields:

Withdrawal Date

The date the transaction occurred.

Units Withdrawn

The total number of units withdrawn in this transaction.

Gross Amount

The total value of the transaction (the amount received from selling these units).

Optional Fields

📌You may also enter additional details for better record-keeping, though they are not required

Transaction Status

Choose from:

  • Approved

  • Reversed

  • Existing

  • Estimated

Notes

Add any relevant comments about the transaction.

Description

Provide a summary for reference.

Total Tax

Record any tax amount associated with the withdrawal.

Total Fees

Enter any fees deducted from the transaction, such as brokerage or exit fees.

Once all necessary details are entered, select Save to confirm and record the transaction.

  • Transactions can also be locked from further editing by ticking the Lock transaction tickbox at the bottom of the transaction.



Distribute Income Transaction

When recording a distribution transaction, you can select from three different Distribution Types under the Distribution Details section:

Interest Payment

Used for payments earned on interest-bearing investments.

Dividend

Used for dividends received from shares or equity investments.

Distribution

Used for distributions received from managed funds or other investment trusts.

Enter Tax Details for Distributions

  • Any values entered in the Tax Details for Distributions section are recorded as percentages.

  • This allows for accurate tracking of taxable income related to distributions.

Allocate Franking Information

  • In the distribution entry window, you can allocate franking credits if applicable.

  • This ensures that dividend imputation details are accurately reflected for tax and reporting purposes.

Investment Information

Description

The name of the investment asset (e.g., Monash Investors Small Companies Fund Class A).

Owner

The entity or account that owns the investment (e.g., AMG Personal Super).

Value

The unit price or value per unit at the specified date.

Value Date

The date the investment value was recorded.

Entered By

The user who entered or modified the investment record.

Units

The total number of units held in the investment.

Transaction Information

Transaction Type

The type of transaction being recorded. This field is locked and defined by the transaction type that was selected.

Transaction Status

The approval status of the transaction (e.g., Approved, Pending, or Rejected).

Description

Additional details about the transaction (if applicable).

Notes

Any relevant comments or remarks related to the transaction.

Distribution Details

Distribution Type

The type of income distribution (e.g., Interest Payment, Dividend, or Distribution).

Gross Amount (*)

The total amount before any deductions, such as tax.

TFN Withheld

The amount withheld due to tax file number (TFN) requirements.

Distribution Date (*)

The date the distribution was paid or credited.

Net Amount

The final amount received after tax and deductions.

Tax Details for Distributions

Franked Dividends

Portion of the distribution that has franking credits attached.

Unfranked Dividends

Portion of the dividend that has no franking credits.

Capital Gain Income

Income derived from capital gains in the investment.

Tax Free

Portion of the income that is not subject to tax.

Tax Deferred

Portion of the distribution where tax liability is deferred to a future date.

Tax Exempted

Income that is fully exempt from taxation.

Foreign Income

Income received from international investments.

Capital Return

Portion of the distribution classified as a return of capital rather than income.

Other Income

Any additional income not covered by the categories above.

Reinvestment Details

Unit Price

The price per unit at which reinvestment occurs.

Transaction Fee

Any fees applied to the reinvestment transaction.

Amount Reinvested

The total amount reinvested back into the asset.

Once all details are entered, select Save to confirm the distribution payment.

To review recorded transactions, navigate to the Transaction List section, where you can view and manage all payment records.
