Overview

The new Performance Reports’ design allows you to generate investment performance summaries with improved formatting and greater flexibility.

Designed to overcome the limitations of existing reports, this enhancement introduces outputs in Microsoft Word and PDF formats, making the content easier to customise and present to clients. Whether you're an adviser, paraplanner, AFSL, or support user, these reports help deliver clear, client-ready documents with less formatting work.

📌Note

Both the existing Investment Reports and the new Performance Reports will remain available. While the older reports support Excel and PDF outputs, the PDF formatting is limited and less customisable. The new Performance Reports focus on producing clean, readable layouts that can be edited in Word for maximum flexibility.

💡Tip

If you wish to have your branding implemented into the report directly, rather than adding it after generating the document, contact your CSM to arrange permanent template modifications.

Access

To access the new Performance Reports, from a client record, navigate to Reports > Review Investment Reports, then select the Performance option from the drop-down.

Once you're on the page, the Report type is set to Comprehensive Investment Report, Select Performance from the drop-down options.

Next, select the reporting period. You can either choose a specific Date Range or select Since Inception to capture the full performance history. Use the Start Date and End Date fields to define the custom range if needed.

After selecting the date range, choose the Entities or Platforms you want to include in the report. You can select multiple entities depending on the client structure.

Click on the arrow in front of the entity name to open and select/deselect the available platforms.

Then, choose your preferred output format. You can select either Word (DOCX) or PDF. Choosing Word enables you to easily customise the report’s layout, text, or branding before sharing it with clients.

Once all selections are made, select Download. Your file will download to your local drive, ready for review or editing.

Understanding the Report Output

The report will show the client’s investment performance for the selected time period in an attractive and easy-to-read table. Each row represents an investment holding, grouped by entity or platform, with detailed performance figures across the following columns:

Column

Description

Investment

The name of the investment or asset held, such as managed funds, listed securities, cash holdings, or accruals. Additional platform or code details may appear beneath the name.

Value at Start

The total value of the investment at the beginning of the selected reporting period.

Net Change

The net amount added to or withdrawn from the investment during the reporting period. Positive values indicate additions; negative values show withdrawals.

Income

Any income received from the investment during the reporting period, including dividends, interest, or distributions.

Growth

The increase or decrease in the value of the investment over the period, excluding any income or transaction flows.

Value at End

The total value of the investment at the end of the reporting period. This includes an itemised breakdown of units and unit price.

Rate of Return

The percentage return on the investment over the reporting period, based on its performance and activity.

💡Tip

Because the report is output in Word or PDF, you can format or annotate the document further before sharing it with clients. If you'd like branded or firm-wide templates applied, contact your CSM.

Calculations

The values shown in the Performance Report are based on the transaction history and unit prices as recorded in AdviserLogic. This ensures the figures reflect the true movement and value of each investment across the reporting period.

Unit Prices

All unit prices used in the report are based on the NAV Price available on the relevant start and end dates.

Units at Start / Units at End

The number of units held at the start and end of the period is calculated from the asset’s transaction history, accessible via Assets > three dots menu > Transaction History.

  • Start units are derived from all Add/Redeem transactions dated before the start date of the report.

  • End units include all Add/Redeem transactions up to the end date of the report.

Net Change

This value reflects the net movement of funds (additions minus withdrawals) during the reporting period. It includes only Add and Redeem transactions that fall within the date range of the report.

Income

Income includes distributions received from investments during the reporting period. It is based on transactions categorised as Distribute Income.

Growth

Growth shows how the value of the investment changed during the period, excluding the effects of contributions and withdrawals. In most cases, this reflects the impact of unit price changes over time.

  • The formula used:
(Value at End + Withdrawals) − (Value at Start + Additions)

Rate of Return

The method for calculating return depends on the row type:

  • For individual asset rows:
    (Income + Growth) ÷ (Value at Start + Additions) × 100

· For subtotals and entity totals:
A weighted average of the individual asset returns, where the weight is based on:
(Value at End + Withdrawals)
This is then expressed as a percentage of the overall end value for the group

📌Note

These calculations ensure that returns reflect actual performance over the period, adjusted for investment flows and portfolio changes.

Setting up Investment Datafeeds is the best way to ensure the required transaction history is available for the report to use
