Overview
In AdviserLogic, the Primary Client is typically the individual requiring more interaction and financial advice, while the Partner is linked as a secondary record. However, there may be situations where you need to switch these roles, ensuring the correct client holds the primary position for accurate financial management.
When You Might Need to Switch the Primary Client and Partner:
Incorrect setup – If the clients were initially linked with the wrong person as the primary.
Change in financial management needs – If the partner is now the main financial decision-maker or requires more direct engagement.
Separation or relationship changes – If a partner takes over financial matters due to changes in personal circumstances.
Estate planning adjustments – If the primary client passes away and the surviving partner should take the lead record.
Switching the Primary Client and Partner ensures that financial records, advice interactions, and reporting structures align with the client’s evolving needs.
Switching Primary and Secondary (Partner) Client
To switch the Primary Client and Partner, follow these steps:
Split the Existing Client and Partner Records
Refer to How to Split Client and Partner Records to divorce the client and their partner.
This will create two separate client records, allowing you to reassign roles correctly.
Re-Link the Clients with the Correct Primary Role
Refer to Marry Existing Client Instructions to re-link the client and their partner.
Select the client who should now be the Primary Client and assign the other as the Partner.
Once completed, the records will be linked again, with the newly assigned Primary Client taking precedence in financial planning and reporting.
