Overview
When you model CFS FirstChoice Wholesale Personal Super or CFS FirstChoice Wholesale Pension, AdviserLogic automatically categorises the underlying investments and calculates the applicable administration fees.
AdviserLogic also calculates the portfolio rebate and displays the resulting net administration fee. This gives you a clear breakdown to review before the fee flows into the client’s advice document.
Access
You can access the calculation within Digital Advice recommendation strategies when navigating to the Super Fees screen.
You can also access the same calculation through Advice Tools > Super Fees.
The calculation and result are the same in both locations.

Instructions
Review the administration fee breakdown
Select CFS FirstChoice Wholesale Personal Super or CFS FirstChoice Wholesale Pension and complete the client’s proposed investment allocation.
Open the Super Fees screen and expand Administration Fee Breakdown. AdviserLogic displays the balance, administration fee rate and calculated fee for each investment category.
Within the information window, the Amounts column shows the client’s balance allocated to Term Deposit (TD), Cash, Cash Equivalent (CE) and Other. The Admin Fee column shows the administration fee calculated for each category using the rate displayed beside the category name.
Investment Categories
The CFS Cash Account and Cash Equivalent categories are not interchangeable. They have different administration fee rates and may contain different underlying investments.
Check that each investment has been added using the correct APIR code or ticker.
The category amounts combine to produce Total Administration Fee (A).
Investment category | Administration fee |
CFS Term Deposits | 0.15% |
CFS Cash Account | 0.60% |
Cash Equivalent | 0.20% |
Other Options | 0.20% |
The CFS Cash Account is displayed separately because it has a different administration fee from Cash Equivalent investments.
Cash Equivalent and Other Options are also displayed separately because they are treated differently in the portfolio rebate calculation, even though they have the same administration fee rate.
⚠️Important
Check that the correct underlying investments have been selected. An incorrectly categorised investment can affect both the administration fee and portfolio rebate.
The Total Account Balance (A) row shows the client’s total account balance. The value in the Admin Fee column shows the total administration fee before any portfolio rebate is deducted.
The Portfolio Rebate section shows the information used to calculate the client’s rebate.
This includes the applicable rebate rate, the total held in cash, term deposits and cash equivalents, any balance entered for CFS FirstChoice Employer Super, and the amount held in Other Options.
Cash, term deposits, cash equivalents and Employer Super balances contribute to the rebate tier calculation but do not earn a rebate themselves.
Portfolio Rebate Eligibility
Other Options is the only investment category that earns the portfolio rebate.
Cash, Cash Equivalent, Term Deposit and Employer Super balances can affect which rebate tier applies, but they do not receive a rebate themselves.
Review the Portfolio Rebate
The Total Portfolio Rebate (B) shows the rebate calculated on the eligible Other Options balance. Expand Rebate Breakdown to see how the balance has been allocated across each portfolio tier, including the tier range, allocated balance, rebate rate and calculated rebate.
Expand Portfolio Rebate and Rebate Breakdown to see how AdviserLogic has calculated the client’s rebate.
The portfolio rebate is applied progressively across the client’s total eligible portfolio.
Portfolio band | Rebate rate |
$0–$100,000 | 0.00% |
$100,000–$500,000 | 0.05% |
$500,000–$1,000,000 | 0.10% |
Above $1,000,000 | 0.20% |
Cash, Term Deposit and Cash Equivalent balances fill the rebate tiers first. These balances use the available capacity in each tier but do not earn a rebate.
Other Options balances are then placed on top of the cash-type balances. Each portion of the Other Options balance earns the rebate rate applying to the tier in which it falls.
Where an Other Options balance crosses more than one tier, AdviserLogic divides the balance across the applicable tiers and calculates a separate rebate for each portion.
The rebate amounts from each tier combine to produce Total Portfolio Rebate (B).
The Net Total Admin Fee (A - B) at the bottom of the window is the administration fee remaining after the total portfolio rebate has been deducted.
Include an Employer Super Balance
Where the client also holds CFS FirstChoice Employer Super, you can include the balance in the portfolio rebate calculation.
Select the Pencil icon to enter the amount in the Employer Super Balance field within the Portfolio Rebate section.
A new window will open where you can enter or edit the Employer Super Balance and save the change.
AdviserLogic then displays the Wholesale Account Balance, the Employer Super Balance and the combined Total.
The Employer Super balance fills the rebate tiers in the same way as cash-type investments. It does not earn a rebate itself, but it can move the client’s eligible Other Options balance into a higher rebate tier.
This may increase the portfolio rebate applied to the client’s Wholesale account.
To remove the Employer Super balance from the calculation, enter zero in the Employer Super Balance field and save the change. The calculation will then revert to the Wholesale account balance only.
Confirm the Net Administration Fee
Review Total Administration Fee (A) and Total Portfolio Rebate (B) on the Super Fees screen.
AdviserLogic subtracts the portfolio rebate from the total administration fee and displays Net Administration Fee (C).
Net Administration Fee (C) = Total Administration Fee (A) – Total Portfolio Rebate (B)
The net administration fee is the estimated administration fee after the portfolio rebate has been applied.
The calculation updates when you change the client’s investment allocation or Employer Super balance and save the scenario.
👉 Worked Example 1: Wholesale Account With a Single Rebate Tier
👉 Worked Example 1: Wholesale Account With a Single Rebate Tier
This example shows a portfolio where the cash-type investments already exceed $1,000,000. As a result, the complete Other Options balance falls into the highest rebate tier.
Client allocation
Category | Balance | Rate | Administration fee |
CFS Term Deposits | $1,160,470 | 0.15% | $1,740.71 |
CFS Cash Account | $580,235 | 0.60% | $3,481.41 |
Cash Equivalent | $0 | 0.20% | $0.00 |
Other Options | $2,030,823 | 0.20% | $4,061.65 |
Total Administration Fee (A) | $3,771,528 |
| $9,283.76 |
The Cash, Term Deposit and Cash Equivalent balances total $1,740,705. This amount is already above $1,000,000, so the complete Other Options balance of $2,030,823 sits in the highest rebate tier.
The portfolio rebate is calculated as follows:
$2,030,823 × 0.20% = Total Portfolio Rebate (B) of $4,061.65
The net administration fee is:
$9,283.76 – $4,061.65 = Net Administration Fee (C) of $5,222.11
In this example, the Other Options balance does not need to be divided across different tiers because the cash-type balances have already filled the lower tiers.

👉Worked Example 2: Multi-Tier Rebate With and Without Employer Super
This example shows an Other Options balance that moves across more than one rebate tier after an Employer Super balance is included.
Client allocation
Category | Balance | Rate | Administration fee |
CFS Cash Account | $50,000 | 0.60% | $300.00 |
CFS Term Deposits | $30,000 | 0.15% | $45.00 |
Cash Equivalent | $20,000 | 0.20% | $40.00 |
Other Options | $400,000 | 0.20% | $800.00 |
Total Administration Fee (A) | $500,000 |
| $1,185.00 |
Scenario A: No Employer Super Balance
The cash-type balances total $100,000. This exactly fills the first rebate tier, which has a rate of 0.00%.
The $400,000 Other Options balance then occupies the cumulative range from $100,000 to $500,000. The complete balance therefore receives the 0.05% rebate rate.
The portfolio rebate is:
$400,000 × 0.05% = Total Portfolio Rebate (B) of $200.00
The net administration fee is:
$1,185.00 – $200.00 = Net Administration Fee (C) of $985.00
Scenario B: Employer Super Balance of $150,000
The $100,000 cash-type balance and $150,000 Employer Super balance combine to total $250,000 before the Other Options balance is applied.
This fills the complete first tier and $150,000 of the second tier. The first $250,000 of the Other Options balance fills the remainder of the second tier. The remaining $150,000 moves into the third tier.
Portion of Other Options | Cumulative range | Tier rate | Rebate |
$250,000 | $250,000–$500,000 | 0.05% | $125.00 |
$150,000 | $500,000–$650,000 | 0.10% | $150.00 |
Total |
|
| $275.00 |
The total portfolio rebate is:
Total Portfolio Rebate (B) = $275.00
The net administration fee is:
$1,185.00 – $275.00 = Net Administration Fee (C) of $910.00
Effect of Including Employer Super
Result | No Employer Super | With Employer Super | Difference |
Portfolio Rebate (B) | $200.00 | $275.00 | +$75.00 |
Net Administration Fee (C) | $985.00 | $910.00 | –$75.00 |
The Employer Super balance did not receive a rebate. It moved $150,000 of the Other Options balance from the 0.05% tier into the 0.10% tier.
This increased the portfolio rebate by $75.00 and reduced the net administration fee by the same amount.

Troubleshooting
Issue | What to check |
The administration fee looks too high or too low | Confirm the selected product, investment balances and category assigned to each investment. |
A cash investment has the wrong fee | Check whether the investment is a CFS Cash Account or a Cash Equivalent investment. |
The portfolio rebate is lower than expected | Confirm how much of the portfolio is held in Other Options. Cash-type and Employer Super balances do not earn a rebate. |
The Employer Super fields are not visible | Enter a non-zero amount in the Employer Super Balance field and save the change. |
Adding Employer Super does not change the rebate | The Employer Super balance may not move any eligible Other Options amount into a higher tier. Review the expanded Rebate Breakdown. |
The total differs from the displayed fee lines by one cent | This can occur when the total is calculated using unrounded component values. |
An investment appears in the wrong category | Check the investment’s APIR code or ticker against the categorisation tables in this article. |
