Overview

Morningstar has upgraded its security protocols to include compulsory Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and Biometrics to improve data protection and create a more secure digital environment for our users.

With the increasing sophistication and incidence of cyber threats, MFA and Biometrics add an extra layer of security by requiring you to provide two or more verification factors to access your accounts.

This significantly reduces the risk of unauthorised access, safeguarding sensitive information against potential breaches.

The additional integration of Universal Sign-on across your Morningstar Adviser Research Centre (ARC) and AdviserLogic (ADL) products allows you to access your multiple Morningstar applications with a single set of credentials.

These upgrades demonstrate Morningstar’s commitment to providing robust security measures while ensuring user convenience and efficiency.

Existing Users

Existing users can follow the instructions below to enrol in Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and Biometrics.

If you require further assistance with these steps, please contact support Via your messenger or call us.

Sign in to your AdviserLogic account with your username and password.

MFA Enrollment

With the compulsory MFA applied to your account, the following step will take you to the MFA Enrollment.

Enrolling in Multi-Factor Authentication is a one-time process unless you need to change the MFA method to a different device or browser, or change from mobile phone authentication to an authentication app.

If you need to reset your Multi-Factor Authentication, please contact support. We will be happy to help you, and it's a fairly quick process.

As soon as you log in, you will be prompted to choose between setting up an Authenticator or an SMS Code

Please follow the below instructions based on your preference:

Recommended

Recommended if travelling overseas

SMS Code

When selecting SMS you will be prompted to enter the country your phone is registered, this can be selected from a drop-down list by clicking into the Country field.

And selecting the country your phone is registered in from the dropdown menu.

Then enter your mobile number in the phone field, omitting the initial zero.

Selecting continue will send a 6-digit code to your nominated phone number, enter the code and select Continue to confirm your identity.

It is not possible to disable Multi-Factor Authentication. Selecting Remember this browser is the only way to bypass the system, and only for the device you are on when selecting the option. Logging in on another device will recommence the MFA prompts.

Recovery Code

Once the mobile phone enrollment is complete, you will be provided with a single-use recovery code for future logins, in case there is an issue with SMS delivery.

Please save this code in a place where you can access it without your registered device, for example - taking a screenshot and emailing it to yourself.

You will be unable to proceed until you have selected the I have safely recorded this code tickbox. Selecting continue will generate an error message.

The MFA enrolment stage is now complete. You will now be prompted to setup your Biometric MFA for quicker, easier, more secure AdviserLogic login.

Note

  • MFA registration is a single-time event unless the mobile phone number associated with your account changes.

  • If you need the MFA reset for any reason please contact AdviserLogic.

  • Only the Account Owner or the Practice /Principle Champion have the authority to request an MFA reset.

Authenticator App Setup

For this option, you will first need to download a Google or Microsoft Authenticator app from your phone's app marketplace.

Authentication Apps

Android

Iphone

Select Google Authenticator or similar from the AdviserLogic MFA setup page after logging in with your username and password.

You will navigate to a page with a QR code to be scanned by your chosen Authentication app.

From the Authentication app on your phone select the Add / + / Scan QR code button and proceed to scan the code.

A connection will be established and the authenticator will generate a new code every minute. You may name your connection or it will be named automatically.

Google

Microsoft

Enter the code into the Code field on the AdviserLogic page, then select Continue.

Only Google or Microsoft Authentication apps can be used with AdviserLogic.

The authenticator generates a new code every minute, you will have to enter the newest generated code before the timeout, otherwise, you will receive an error message.

If you prefer to register with a mobile, please select Try another method

Recovery Code - Authenticator

Once the Authenticator enrollment is complete, you will be provided with a single-use recovery code for future logins, in case there is an issue with your authenticator, or you loose access to the device you have registered with.

Please save this code in a place where you can access it without your registered device, for example - taking a screenshot and emailing it to yourself.

You will be unable to proceed until you have selected the I have safely recorded this code tickbox, selcting continue will generate an error message.

The enrolment stage is now complete. You can now sign in to AdviserLogic with your authentication App. Or setup your Biometric MFA.

MFA registration is a single-time event unless you loose access to the device the authenticator has been registered. Please ask Ava for an MFA reset and she will put you straight through to support.

Only the Account Owner or the Practice Champion have the authority to request an MFA reset.

Biometrics

Soon, you will notice a new feature when logging in: biometric authentication is being introduced as part of our Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) system.

This enhancement was implemented to improve your login experience while maintaining strong security across AdviserLogic. Biometric options such as Face recognition, Fingerprint and PIN work with your existing software to provide a faster, easier way to authenticate, especially on devices you use regularly.

This feature allows you to securely log in without needing to enter a verification code every time. Once set up, Biometric MFA replaces the manual MFA step with quick device‑specific recognition, improving both convenience and protection.

Using Biometric Multi‑Factor Authentication (MFA)

If your device supports biometric authentication, you can now enrol in Biometric MFA for faster and more secure access to AdviserLogic. Participation is optional, you can choose to continue using other MFA methods if preferred.

Setting Up Biometric MFA

Once you've signed in with your Username/Password and a six-digit Verification Code (via text or authenticator), you’ll be prompted with three options:

  • Continue – Proceed to set up Biometric MFA

  • Remind me later – Skip Biometric setup and continue using verification codes. You will be reminded 2 weeks from the date selected to set up biometrics

  • Not on this device – Skip setup for the current device. You will not be reminded for a year

Note

If you select Remind me later, or Skip, and later decide to enable Biometric MFA, please ask to reset your MFA settings, she will put you straight through to support.

Note

This feature is only available if your device is biometric-enabled.

  • Microsoft Windows – To check if your Windows device supports biometric sign-in, go to Start > Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options. Available biometric options will be visible here if supported by your hardware.

  • Apple IOS To check if your iOS device has biometric capabilities like Face ID or Touch ID, navigate to Settings > Face ID & Passcode (or Settings > Touch ID & Passcode). If you see these options, your device supports biometric authentication. If you see neither, your device likely doesn't have the hardware for it.

Biometric Authentication Options

If you select Continue, follow the on-screen prompts to choose one of the three available biometric methods:

Uses facial recognition technology and requires a working webcam. The system will scan your face during setup and use this for future logins.

Uses your fingerprint for authentication and requires a fingerprint sensor – commonly a small square located below the keyboard navigation keys.

Allows you to set up a 4- or 6-digit PIN. This method does not require biometric hardware but is still considered a Biometric option within MFA.

Note

If any of these options are not available on your device, it simply won't show in the listed options.

Biometric Setup by Type

The available options will show in a pop up in the middle of your screen. Follow the prompts for each option to setup you Biometrics MFA

Face Recognition

Look into the webcam until your face is recognised, then click OK.

Fingerprint

Place your finger on the sensor as prompted. Once registered, click OK.

PIN

Enter your 4 - or 6-digit code and click OK to complete setup.

You will receive a confirmation message: Device Registration Successful. Select Continue to complete login.

On future logins, after entering your credentials, the system will prompt for your selected Biometric method instead of sending a verification code. If you chose Remember this device for 30 days, you won't be prompted again during that period.

Note

If you prefer not to use Biometric authentication, you can continue using verification codes sent via SMS or generated by an authenticator app.

New Users

New users have one or two additional steps before enrolling for Multi-factor Authentication depending on whether the Activation link in your welcome email is live or has expired. This sometimes happens if you haven't had a chance to activate it before it expires, or if there is conflicting software on your device.

Welcome Email- Set Password

As a new user, you will receive a welcome email, to commence your Adviserlogic login process, select the activation link in the email and set your password. Once the password setup is complete, you will be prompted to follow the MFA enrollment steps.

Welcome Email Link Expired - Instructions

If the link in your welcome email has expired or is inactive you can set your login credentials by selecting the Forgot Password? link from the AdviserLogic Login page, to set up an AdviserLogic password.

Note

  • If the reset password process still does not work, please contactas Ava to put you through to support and we will get you in in no time :)

  • The reset password process will not help troubleshoot in cases where the MFA has already been set up, or for exiting users.

Follow the Forgot Password prompts - Add your email to the empty field and select Reset Password.

A password reset email will be sent to your registered email. Select the Reset Password link within the body of the email.

You will be redirected to a page where you can set your password. To create your new password please ensure all the listed criteria are met and select Reset Password.

Troubleshooting

Lost/Damaged Phone

If you lose or damage the phone associated with your AdviserLogic Account you can use the Recovery Code saved when enrolling in Multi-Factor Authentication.

It is also recommended that you reset your MFA as soon as you can by contacting AdviserLogic Support.

I can’t see the option for Authenticator App when I sign in to register for MFA

You can use the logout link to force all previous sessions of Adviserlogic to be forced closed on your account.

If this doesn't resolve the issue, please follow the clear cache instructions, restart your computer and try logging in again. If this doesn’t resolve the issue, please contact support.

Not receiving verification code on SMS even after Enrolling for MFA

Contact support to reset the MFA and then select the use Authenticator app (Google/Microsoft) instead

Recovery Code Malfunction

Occasionally, the Recovery Code from your registration will expire or malfunction. If this occurs you will need to reset the MFA by asking Ava to put you through to support.

Verification Code via Authenticator App Invalid

  • If the code you enter from your authentication app is invalid, please make sure that the timeout has not expired when you are entering the code. These apps typically have a 1-minute timer before the code changes again.

  • If the verification code from your Authenticator app becomes invalid despite entering the code within the time window, it may be due to synchronization issues between the app and the server. To resolve this, ask Ava to reset the MFA and opt for SMS code verification

Travelling Overseas and Need Codes to Log In to AdviserLogic

If you are travelling overseas and need to receive codes to log in to AdviserLogic, please consider the following best practices.

  • Remember This Browser: When logging in, tick the checkbox that says Remember this browser on the device that will be travelling with you. This will eliminate the need to complete MFA for 60 Days.

  • Use the Authenticator App: Opt to use an Authenticator app for verification codes, which can work without needing a mobile network connection.

  • Keep a Recovery Code: Ensure you have a recovery code saved securely. This code can be used to log in if you cannot receive verification codes.

Oops something went wrong error

You can use the logout link to force all previous sessions of Adviserlogic to be forced closed on your account.

If this doesn't resolve the issue, please follow the clear cache instructions, restart your computer and try logging in again. If this doesn’t resolve the issue, please contact support.

Selected 'Remember This Browser' but still being prompted for MFA

  • Remember this browser is only valid for 60 days and only on the browser that you have selected this option, changing devices or browsers will trigger the MFA prompt

  • Clearing the Cache will also remove the selection, and you will need to reselect this option when entering the MFA details.

Can't Log in to Adviser Research Centre with my AdviserLogic Login

Please Contact Adviserlogic or Adviser Research Centre Support to ensure that you have the same login email across both applications.
