Overview

Multi-tier digital advice fee calculation allows you to apply different fee rates across defined value tiers. This helps you structure digital advice fees accurately and ensures clients are charged in line with your practice’s methodology. The system automatically determines which tier applies based on the client’s calculated value, then applies the correct fee for that tier.

Access

You can access multi-tier fee settings from the Digital Advice Settings options, located at the top right of the Digital Advice Window.

Choose the Portfolio Advice Fee Setup option.

Select Add Fee Structure

From the Tier Selection options at the top of the window, select the Fee Tier Structure

📌 Note

  • From - To: The client's portfolio balance amount that will be subject to this Fee Structure type - This is often related to the client categories.

  • Amount Type: Determine whether the fee will be charged as a percentage or a dollar amount.

  • Fee: The percentage or Dollar amount to be charged.

Single vs Multi-Tier Calculations

➡️ Single Tier

A flat percentage is applied to the entire portfolio balance, based on the tier the total amount falls into.

Example Fee Tiers:

  • $0–$100,000 → 3%

  • $100,001–$250,000 → 2%

  • $250,001–$500,000 → 1%

  • $500,001+ → 0.5%

Example:
If the portfolio balance is $300,000, the entire amount is charged at 1% (based on the $250,001–$500,000 tier).
Total Fee = $300,000 × 1% = $3,000

👉 Use Single-Tier when you want a simple, flat-rate structure that shifts once a client’s balance crosses a defined threshold.

Ideal for straightforward pricing models or smaller portfolios.

🔀 Multi-Tier

A tiered rate is applied to each portion of the portfolio balance within its respective range.

Example Fee Tiers

  • Tier 1: $0–$100,000 → 3%

  • Tier 2: $100,001–$250,000 → 2%

  • Tier 3: $250,001–$500,000 → 1%

  • Tier 4: $500,001+ → 0.5%

Example
For a balance of $300,000, the fee is calculated in parts:

  • $100,000 × 3% = $3,000

  • $150,000 × 2% = $3,000

  • $50,000 × 1% = $500
    Total Fee = $6,500

👉 Use Multi-Tier when you want a more scalable, equitable structure that rewards larger portfolios with lower marginal rates.

Perfect for scalable advice models and practices offering sliding-scale fees.

How to Set a Single or Multi-Tiered Portfolio Advice Fee Structure

Once you've entered a Fee Name, you're ready to define your fee tiers based on asset balances. This section allows you to specify how fees are applied depending on the client’s portfolio size.

Define the Balance Range

Under the Upfront / Ongoing Fee section:

  • From ($): Enter the lower limit of the asset tier for the chosen structure.

  • To ($): Enter the upper limit of the asset tier for the chosen structure.

Select the Amount Type

From the Amount Type dropdown, choose how the fee will be calculated:

  • % (per annum) – Charge a percentage of the client’s portfolio balance per year.

  • $ (per annum) – Charge a flat dollar fee per year regardless of balance.

Enter the Fee Amount

In the Fee field, enter the relevant rate:

  • If using %, enter a decimal (e.g. 3 or 0.25%)

  • If using $, enter the dollar value (e.g. 550)

Add Additional Tiers (Optional)

Select the plus icon to add additional balance ranges and apply different fee rates per tier.

Single Tier Structures - Apply a flat percentage to the entire portfolio balance, based on the tier the total amount falls into.

Multi-Tier Structures - Apply a tiered rate to each portion of the portfolio balance within its respective range

Save Your Structure

Once all tiers and values are defined, select Save.

Multiple fee structures can be added to ensure all the client types are represented.

When multiple fee structures have been created, the Add New button will appear in the top right corner of the window.

📌Note

The maximum value you can enter in the To field is 99,999,999.99.
Ensure your tier ranges fall within this limit when setting up your fee structure.

💡Tip

If you want to create an open-ended final tier, simply enter 99,999,999.99 as the upper limit.

Modify Your Fee Structure

You can easily update or reset your Portfolio Advice Fee Structure using the following options:

Reset

Select Reset to clear all entered values and return the structure to its default state. This is useful when you want to start fresh with a new setup.

Delete

Use the rubbish bin icon at the end of each tier to delete that specific tier only — without affecting the rest of your fee structure.

💡Tip

Deleting a tier won’t automatically adjust the remaining tier thresholds, so double-check your ranges after editing.

📌 Note

You can also access fee structures through Administrative Tools > Compliance Including FOFA > Fee Structure.
